News & Updates
     27April2015

The clock is ticking… we’re talking about 72 hours to go before the Fiesta’s pre-party at G Hotel! Woohoo!

We are sure everyone is getting busy & ready. The performers are putting in their final hours of practice, the Committee members are running around with last minute checks and for those coming to enjoy your social dancing, don’t forget to pack the right outfits for our themed nights!

2.            We are trying hard to ensure everyone has a good time this coming weekend but… we do need a small favour from all of you. At the risk of sounding like a school ma’am, please read the following do’s and don’ts –

  • DANCING SHOES

DO bring your dancing shoes/heels as only those footwear will be allowed on the dance floor. Without your dancing shoes, you will be denied admission into the dance area. We are very firm on this, no pleas will be entertained (even if you flash us your Jimmy Choos/Christian Leboutins);

  • FOOD & DRINKS

  • remember that all types of food and drinks are not allowed to be consumed on the dance floor. Anyone found with food/drinks in the dance area will be asked to leave immediately. Should you require energy boost, there will be a vendor stationed at St. Jo’s Level 3. They will sell finger food, sodas & alcoholic beverages, all of which can be consumed along the corridors of St. Jo’s Levels 2 & 3;

  • CHANGING ROOMS

For those performing, we have prepared changing rooms (one for ladies, one for guys) next to the Chapel Hall on St. Jo’s Level 2. While every effort has been taken to ensure comfort & convenience, exercise care in respect of your belongings. We will not be held responsible for bruised egos & increased high-blood pressure no thanks to missing outfits/tampered beauty kits;

  • PARKING FACILITIES

For those coming with their own vehicles, utilize the ample parking facilities provided by Gurney Paragon Mall. The rates are reasonable and open for 24 hours. If you’re convinced that parking by the roadside will be a cheaper option, please think again. The Penang Island City Council is superbly efficient in issuing parking summonses & towing!;

  • PHOTOGRAPHY

DO strike up your best pose in front of the Fiesta’s photoboard located at St. Jo’s Level 1. Our official photographers will be there at selected hours to whip out their professional cameras and do justice to your vanity.

DO take plenty of pictures throughout the Fiesta with your fellow dancers. We won’t stop you from using smartphones and compact cameras to take selfies or wefies in between dances.

Out of respect to fellow dancers and to ensure no one gets hurt from sudden bright flashes and bombastic protruding lenses, please bring your SLR and/or other professional cameras to the dance area. Only our official photographers (and they’ll wear identification tags) will be allowed to move about on the dance floor with their SLRs; and

  • AFTER-PARTY

DON’T forget about the nightly After Party hosted by G HOTEL! The hotel’s lobby will be transformed into a dance floor for us to continue dancing until the early hours. Just in case some of you are just looking to relax after those dancing hours in St. Jo’s, G HOTEL offers 20% off all drinks during the After Party. So chill, chit-chat & enjoy watching others dance the night away!

It’s also never too late to introduce our latest sponsor, Tropical Spice Garden Sdn. Bhd.!

Tropical Spice Garden has kindly agreed to provide the Fiesta’s delegates with souvenir items and prizes for our lucky draw. The lucky winners stand to win either one of –

  • 14 tour vouchers; or

  • 2 cooking class vouchers.

If you happen to win a cooking class voucher & the kitchen is not exactly your domain, feel free to re-gift it to someone who has better connections with the pots and pans. Otherwise, take the chance to release your inner Chef. You may just be a MasterChef in the making!

Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock…

News & Updates
     7April2015

This update is solely about the THEMES for our social dancing nights! Read on what we have in mind…

1. Friday (1.5.2015) – Paint the Town Red!

As a nod to George Town, the historical and yet breathing modern heart of Penang, we

thought it’s a good idea for everyone to wear something or everything red! It can be anything, from your hair to your top to your bottom or even those red hot dancing heels. It’s your choice, whether to make heads turn as a red hot chili pepper or go unnoticed thanks to a simple red hairband. You’ve been warned to Paint the Town Red! Get REDy.

2. Saturday (2.5.2015) – Glittery Studio54

We can’t have Saturday Night Fever but no one is stopping you all from turning up in your most glittering outfits. Think sparkle, think stardust, think sequins and everything that dazzles! Pay homage to one of the world’s most famous nightclubs, right here in St. Jo’s. Try to outshine each other not only in your steps, but with your outfits too. Let’s have a night of glittery stars…but please, leave your precious gold & diamonds at home!

3. Sunday (3.5.2015) – Havana Night

All good things must come to an end…or at least, until we meet again next year in Penang. For this last night of bond and camaraderie on the dance floor, it’s time to relax and let your hair down. We’re not bringing the streets of Cuba to Penang (yet) so we hope you’ll show us what Havana Night should be. Let’s bid our farewells in a true Havana fashion. Google it up & be creative. Dress to impress.

News & Updates            16March2015

It’s middle of March (time really does fly…FAST) and we’ve got a couple of IMPORTANT updates. Please read them all … y’know, so no important info slips through in between your preparation to visit George Town in a matter of weeks!

First stop – check out the final workshop schedule! It’s jam-packed over 2 days, with various classes & instructors to choose from. There’s literally something for everyone, from beginners to intermediate to advanced levels as well as those ‘open’ workshops. We just hope you’ll have enough energy to learn new steps & show them off during our evening social dancing.

Next stop – our social dancing from 1st to 3rd May 2015 at St. Jo’s, Gurney Paragon Mall is only listed as 8 pm to 12 midnight (yes, we do note the rumbling sounds of dissatisfaction). Seriously, if it was up to us, we’ll let you dancing kings & queens dance all night long (or as long as you can last!). Well, we can’t do that but fret not. Thanks to G HOTEL’s enthusiasm and support for Penang Social Fiesta 2015, you’ll now know WHERE to be TO MAXIMISE YOUR DANCING HOURS!

                PRE-PARTY (30.4.2015) – G HOTEL (LOBBY) – 9 pm to 1 am

                AFTER PARTY (1-3.5.2015) – G HOTEL (LOBBY) – 12 midnight to 3 am

So bring an extra pair of shoes/heels, a change of clothes (if you’re not staying at G Hotel) and energize yourself with after-hours dancing. Just one tiny reminder…do leave some energy for our workshops too!
